Curator and writer Giulia Civardi joins artist Ruoru Mou to discuss the ideas and research behind Fortunate, her current solo exhibition at the gallery.

In conversation, Civardi and Mou will examine the conceptual origins of Mou’s practice, charting her evolving engagement with materials, processes, and systems of representation, and reflecting on earlier works in which references to alchemic experimentation and cinematic tropes operate as cultural and structural frameworks within her methodology.

Key themes will include migration, classification, and cross-cultural encounters, as explored in the exhibition. Drawing on their shared Italian background, the conversation will consider how Renaissance painting and ornamentalism inform Mou’s approach to form, display, and visual language.

Giulia Civardi is a curator and writer living and working between Italy and London.
