The practice of Justin Hibbs centers around the investigation of the construction of space in painting, taking modernist architecture as a starting point. By acknowledging the artificial nature of spatial depiction the work actively undermines both depth and perspective by drawing attention to the two-dimensionality of painting. The work refuses to be purely abstract or representational and consequently exists in the space between.
